A "doudou" is a compact comfort toy—usually an animal head with a soft cloth—designed to accompany a baby during sleep and moments of anxiety. Doudous are best suited from birth; larger plush toys are suitable from 6 months, when the baby has better control over their movements.
Swaddling is an age-old technique of wrapping a baby in a muslin cloth to provide the feeling of security from the mother's womb. It reduces the Moro reflex (the startle reflex that wakes babies) and promotes more peaceful sleep. Cotton muslin is the ideal fabric for swaddling as it is lightweight, breathable, and does not pose a risk of overheating. The technique involves placing the baby in the center of a muslin cloth folded into a triangle and then wrapping the fabric around the baby's body, leaving the legs free to move.
Most of Baby Kangaroo's plush toys and comforters can be machine washed at 30°C in a laundry bag, or hand washed with warm water and mild soap. To dry, air dry in a well-ventilated area—avoid the tumble dryer to preserve texture and shape. The muslin swaddles can withstand washing at 60°C and become progressively softer with use. Avoid fabric softener on cotton items to maintain absorbency.
